Have you ever experienced once in your life to have many first times? Me? Yes. It was the time when I joined the National Youth Science Technology and Environment Summer Camp 2009 (NYSTEC’09) at Balanga City, Bataan. That once in a lifetime experience had given me many first times that had probably changed my life.
It was the first day in the month of April when we were to start our journey. It might be the perfect day for me for it would be my first time to ride an airplane. As we settled ourselves in the plane, there would be no angle that we never took a shot on our cameras. Everything goes fine as the plane had started to board but as we reached the sky 4,000 feet above the ground, my excitement had been driven off into a nerve-wrecking trip. Everyone was enjoying the view except for me. I felt the air pressure was banging on my head that it would burst. They said that chewing a gum could prevent it but it had just given me more anxiety. After an hour and a half, that heart-busting trip has then ended as we reached the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). As first timers, we could be all newbie in everything that goes on in the airport but we had still managed ourselves to vie with the people along. Just then, we had rented out a mini bus to take us in a dwelling at Parañaque in which we were to settle ourselves for the meantime. Afterwards, we headed out to the Mall of Asia. It was just like a city within a city because of its enormous edifice that you couldn’t gaze at it within a single look. Afterwhich, we toured ourselves around the MOA and find a bistro in which we could fill up our empty stomachs from the exhausting trip we had. We then had returned to the apartment and have some rest.
As the third day of April came, everyone was so excited for it’s time to hit the road and invade the city of Balanga, Bataan. It took us four hours to reach our destination until finally we get there safely. As the bus was approached the gate in the resort where we are in, everyone was staring outside the windows witnessing the beautiful scenery of the place. It was totally a picturesque place. And as I stepped out from the bus, excitement had then filled my sleeping system. Everything was amazing. I have then been thinking on how I can meet new friends and become one with the environment. But afterwhich, the main purpose came along; seeing cute guys from other schools. Fortunately, my expectations didn’t fail me. As we’re all gathered up with the other participants in a big hall, you’ll never imagine how lucky I am gazing everywhere, seeing those eye-hooker good looking bunch of guys who came from the different schools entire the Philippines! That’s what luck is all about. Just then after that short meeting, we were then guided to our quarter. I had never imagined that we’re all got to stay in a gigantic tent. And that never ends there. As we entered the tent, I can’t believe that there’s an air conditioner inside it. It was actually my first time seeing a gigantic tent with an aircon inside. That had totally amazed me. But as we go along and arranged our things we had excitingly set off and look around. As we wandered around the place, you could possibly seen such God-given wonders around. There’s a Mango tree farm around, a butterfly sanctuary, a mini zoo, some cute guys, and a lovely garden. Thus, there’s no reason for me to hate such place.

When the night came, all of the campers were given a warm welcome by the facilitators. They had offered us some entertaining presentations and presented us the main theme of the camp which was the love for environment. We were also assigned to our groups in which I had given a chance to meet new friends. As the night ended, everybody felt so blissful and still have that never ending excitement for the next activities that we’ll be doing.
Throughout the days in Bataan, we all had this fun activities that involves about our love and care about our environment. We had these fun games, bazaars, mini fiesta, and some more activities. We also had a field trip at Subic in which was also my first time in going there. Our school had also participated the Cultural dance contest in which it was our first time to join but luckily we were garnered as the second placer.
The final night in the camp had then arrived and almost everyone had shed a tear in their eyes especially on our group. The fun, the bond, and all of the experiences we have made had built in a friendship in which no one could replace. Thus we all have bid goodbyes and must return to our homes. Then the dawn came and we returned to our dwelling at Parañaque. We spent our days there to wait for our flight back home. As we were still there, we had a shopping at Baclaran in which you could buy affordable “pasalubongs” and we headed back to MOA for the last time. It was also “semana santa” and thus we had witnessed a long position of many people with their sto. niños and other images. That was probably also my first time seeing a long prosition during “semana santa”.
On the 11th day of April was our flight back home. We could be all been at once happy and sad for we will all miss those experiences throughout our days in Manila and Bataan. The flight back to Agusan was more comfortable for me compared to my first airplane ride in Manila. I was then fetched by my father and my brothers and as we got home, they could never been so happy with their “pasalubongs”.
On my eleven day invasion in Manila and Bataan, I was so thankful that I had been given a chance to have that once in a lifetime experience in which made me meet my first times. The moments, the fun, the lessons, and the new friendship that I had gained made me feel so blessed and indeed made it my most unforgettable adventure.
